Sign Petition Demanding Marcus Bachmann Stop Harassing Truth Wins Out

From Truth Wins Out:

"You won’t believe this.

Marcus Bachmann, the husband of presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, has launched a petty and vindictive campaign to personally harass Truth Wins Out. He is upset that in July TWO exposed his clinic for practicing “ex-gay” therapy. Prior to this disclosure, Bachmann lied to the American people and denied that his office engaged in these backwards and barbaric techniques. The revelation rocked Michele Bachmann’s campaign and became her first major roadblock.

Now that the campaign is foundering, she and Marcus are looking for scapegoats - and have settled on Truth Wins Out. They are spitefully taking aim at me, trying to punish me because I went undercover to gather conclusive video evidence of “ex-gay” therapy being offered at his clinic.

Like the bullies they are, Bachmann & Associates is illegally demanding that I pay $150 for missed appointments — appointments that I had duly canceled in accordance with the clinic’s guidelines. Amazingly, Marcus Bachmann personally called me this week threatening to send the bogus bill to collections if it was not paid by Friday. Truth Wins Out retained the services of an attorney and steadfastly refuses to be intimidated or pay the fake bill.

Clearly, Marcus Bachmann is angry with Truth Wins Out for exposing his clinic’s fraudulent practices, and is engaging in malicious and vindictive strong-arming for the sole purpose of defaming and discrediting both me and TWO.

Stand with us today: demand that Marcus Bachmann immediately end these spiteful and malicious pursuits and stop harming clients with discredited and harmful ex-gay therapy.

Thank you for your support.

John Becker

SHAME: Michele Bachmann and the Truth about No-Cost Birth Control
Did you catch the latest from Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann’s misinformation crusade? She tried to rally her base against no-cost birth control by intentionally confusing the “morning-after” birth-control pill with the abortion pill. This blatant falsehood is only the beginning of what we would see if she’s elected president.

Why won’t Michele Bachmann talk about the suicides in her district?

From CREDO Action:

Dear Friend,

A string of nine teen suicides have devastated Minnesota’s Anoka-Hennepin School District — the largest district in the state, which is represented by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

Many of the suicides have been linked to students being bullied for their perceived homosexuality, which has prompted a federal investigation of the district’s failure to address anti-gay harassment.

Unfortunately, Anoka-Hennepin enforces a dangerous “neutrality policy” — a gag rule that handcuffs teachers from adequately addressing anti-gay bullying.

As a congresswoman and a former Anoka-Hennepin student, Michele Bachmann is in an important position to speak out against this rule, and the tragic suicides that have lead public health officials to call the area a “suicide contagion.”1 Instead, Bachmann has remained totally silent on this issue.

Tell Michele Bachmann: Denounce anti-gay bullying in your district.

In the past, Bachmann has opposed anti-bullying measures in schools. In 2006, she spoke to the Minnesota legislature in opposition to a proposed anti-bullying law.2

"I think for all of us, our experience in public schools is there have always been bullies," Bachmann said. "Always have been, always will be. I just don’t know how we’re ever going to get to the point of zero tolerance… What does it mean?… Will we be expecting boys to be girls?"

And of course, Bachmann has a long history of anti-gay statements, and came under fire recently after an investigation revealed that a Minnesota counseling clinic owned by Bachmann and her husband was practicing controversial and medically un-sound gay conversion therapy — while accepting Medicaid and other state and public moneys.

But regardless of her history, it is absolutely unacceptable that a member of Congress would ignore such a serious, tragic issue affecting her district.

Tell Michele Bachmann: Denounce anti-gay bullying in your district.

Nine out of 10 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students experience harassment at school3. These students are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, and studies show that more than 1/3 of all LGBT youth have attempted suicide.4

Just last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi criticized Bachmann’s failure to address Anoka-Hennepin’s neutrality policy, saying “I would think that if she wanted to be the President of the United States, she would understand that this is a larger issue than whether someone is gay or not, but as to whether someone is harassed and bullied to the point of seeing no way out.”5

No student should feel threatened or unsafe at school, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. Rep. Michele Bachmann has an obligation to the constituents she represents to speak out, and do everything she can to stop this dangerous trend of teen suicides in her district.

Tell Michele Bachmann: Denounce anti-gay bullying in your district,

Thank you for standing up to bullies, both in the classroom and in elected office.

Stop taxpayer funds to Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic

From CREDO Action:

So-called gay conversion therapy has been denounced by the scientific and medical communities as ineffective, and potentially dangerous.

But an investigation earlier this month exposed that this hateful practice is used by the “quality Christian counseling clinic” owned by Michele Bachmann and her husband1 — a clinic which was recently discovered to have received over $137,000 in federal Medicaid funds, in addition to $24,000 in other state and federal funds.2

It’s bad enough that Bachmann and Associates, after denying for years they practiced ex-gay therapy, clearly encourages patients to pray the gay away. Our taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be funding it.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees Medicaid, and the Minnesota Department of Health (DEH), which distributes the funds within the state, should immediately pull public funds from Bachmann’s clinic.

Tell Secretary Sebelius and DEH Commissioner Edward Ehlinger: Stop funding Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic.

Going to the Bachmann family for counseling is like attending a peace rally hosted by Dick Cheney.

Their views are extreme, hateful and crazy. Michele Bachmann has called homosexuality “a part of Satan,” and “a real issue of sexual dysfunction” while her husband Marcus has called gays “barbarians.”

And even as Michele Bachmann’s family was collecting over $160,000 in Medicaid and other public funds, she was leading Tea Party calls for drastic cuts to the social safety net — especially to Medicaid which she has said swell the “welfare rolls” — and even voted to shut down the government rather than continue funding Planned Parenthood and the Health Care Reform Act.3

Yet when reports broke of the Medicaid payments to her family, Bachmann suddenly became sensitive to discrimination, declaring “it would be discriminatory not to accept Medicaid as a form of payment.”4

It would be stunning to keep funding with public money a clinic that promotes an anti-gay, religious agenda and medically-unsound services. HHS and Minnesota DEH must take a stand now.

Tell Secretary Sebelius and DEH Commissioner Edward Ehlinger: Stop funding Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic.

Thank you for fighting publicly funded hate.

Reject Bachmann’s support of “reparative therapy”!

From the Human Rights Campaign:

"Michele Bachmann and her husband, Marcus, hold some of the most extreme and disturbing anti-LGBT views of any presidential candidate and spouse – and Marcus has admitted to using "reparative therapy" in his Minnesota clinic. We can’t let these dangerous actions go unchallenged. We’re calling on all of the Republican presidential candidates to speak out against the Bachmanns’ alarming views and activities before more damage is done.

TWO Exposed the Bachmann Clan — Help Us Unmask the Next Charlatan

From Truth Wins Out:

A Truth Wins Out undercover operation exposed Michele and Marcus Bachmann this week  for the charlatans that they truly are - and just in time for election season. The couple had claimed that their “Christian” clinic, Bachmann & Associates, did not try to convert LGBT people into heterosexuals.

Truth Wins Out proved that they lied.

Our investigation consisted of attending five therapy sessions at Bachmann & Associates with hidden cameras. At the clinic, TWO’s John Becker was directed by a counselor to act more masculine, pray to Jesus, and start appreciating women’s breasts. The results of our operation unmasked the Bachmann family and definitively proved that their clinic counseled clients to “pray away the gay.”

The results of our investigation broke in the Nation Magazine and ABC World News with Diane Sawyer. TWO spokespeople were interviewed by: ABC’s Nightline and Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Mathews, The Ed Schultz Show, MSNBC News with Thomas Roberts and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell. A dialogue about our investigation was aired on several other shows including CNN’s AC360, Comedy Central’s Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. On Sunday, The New York Times will discuss our investigation and on Tuesday, I will appear on HLN’s The Joy Behar Show.

I want to take a brief timeout from our work exposing people like Michele and Marcus Bachmann to ask for your generous support. Truth Wins Out isn’t just talk - we work tirelessly and get the job done. We turn information into action and our results are tangible.

Please consider a tax-deductible gift to Truth Wins Out today.

In 2011, we have consistently broken major stories and effectively advocated for LGBT equality:

  • TWO launched a petition gathering 160,000 signatures that led to Apple dumping an Exodus International “ex-gay” iPhone app.

  • TWO broke the story of comedian Tracy Morgan’s recent homophobic rant in Nashville - which led to Morgan apologizing

We are excited by what we have accomplished (with only three staff members) - but there is so  much more to do! Truth Wins Out wants to continue fighting anti-gay lies and spotlighting religious extremists like Michele and Marcus Bachmann.

However, we can only do so with your commitment to and investment in Truth Wins Out. If you can give a tax-deductible gift of $1,000, $500, $100, or $35 we’d greatly appreciate it. If your budget allows $25 or $15 - we need your help today.

Your support in any amount is the cornerstone of our success. Be a part of the next victory now!”
